Construction Sequence of a Waste Storage Tank

When time means money, Octaform helps deliver your bottom line!

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

Dimensions: 40’ Diameter, 10’ Depth,

Capacity: 78,540 Gallons

Location: Brunkild, Manitoba

PROJECT START

At set-up, you will consult your detailed assembly drawings to determine which panel widths vary to meet your diameter. A pre-construction planning call can also be set-up with our team or a field service representative may be on-site depending on complexity.

As with standard concrete containment structures designs, Octaform tanks are installed on top of concrete slabs with dowels and waterstop pre-set.

ELAPSED TIME: 1 HOUR

For optimal crew efficiency as soon as the first tacked panel is placed, sections can be added concurrently in both directions. Pre-assembled sections are placed by sliding vertically from the top.

ELAPSED TIME: 2.5 HOURS

Connectors are provided based on the desired width of your tank including insulation. These are slid down into channels on the interior of the panels.

Components are easily handled as until placed are quite flexible.

ELAPSED TIME: 4 HOURS

Octaform can accommodate virtually any re-bar design specified including spacing down to two inches, double mats, and other requirements for high loading, containment, and seismic zone requirements.

Horizontal rebar is fed through the internal webs and should be tied to verticals and lifted off connectors to avoid any loading during the pour.

Rebar inspection can be completed after placement or any time before the pour by simply sliding up external panels every few feet as needed.

ELAPSED TIME: 9 HOURS

If the installation is not perfect, a combination of enclosed adjustment panels will close the tank (1”, 1.5”, and 2”).

With a few simple calculations, it is usually possible to adjust the panel configuration on the fly, while still maintaining relative cell consistency. Assemble as directed until about 10 linear feet remain to be installed. Ten feet will be sufficient to measure, calculate and make slight adjustments to the configuration.

ELAPSED TIME: 14 HOURS

Work with your field service rep or sales representative to confirm the ideal mix design and be sure to follow this carefully while vibrating concrete. A 4-inch slump upgraded to a minimum of 6, ideally 7, with max 1/2″ aggregate be sure to use the mix in no more than 40 minutes after adding plasticizer.

Concrete should be placed per ACI standards, at a rate of no more than 4-foot lifts per hour.

The vibration of the concrete every 6 cells is required to ensure consolidation (prevent honeycombing).

Your Octaform construction specialist will be on-site to inspect form installation and ensure success during concrete placement.
